Hermès : Window Installation of Tokujin Yoshioka

This brilliant window display was done some time ago (19th of NOV, 2009 ~ 19th of JAN, 2010) for Maison Hermès in Ginza, Japan(Architected by Renzo Piano in 2001) by Tokujin Yoshioka, a Japanese artist & designer.  I think this is one of the prime example of luxury brand utilising human sensorium in order to communicate with their customers.

Just brilliant isn't it?

Social Media Revolution 2011

Fact that YouTube is the second largest search engine, sort of shocked me.  So now Google owns No.1 and No.2 search engines??  Wow

Wooyoungmi : No. 51 Coat Donation for Art Against Knives

Paris based, South Korean label, Wooyoungmi, joined up with five creative Londoners to rework their classic 'No. 51 coat' for a charity auction at Selfridges. The likes of jewellery designer Jordan Askill, set designer Gary Card, menswear blogger Steve Salter, Selfridges menswear buyer Reece Crisp and Dazed Digital editor David Hellqvist will be collaborating on the project. The pieces will be exhibited at a special pop-up event in Selfridges, where 10% of the sales of the unchanged coat, and 100% of the five customised ones, will be donated to Art Against Knives, a charity using creativity to tackle the problem of knife crime amongst London’s youth. There will be an opportunity to own one of these five unique Wooyoungmi Collaborator coats with a live auction running on the Wooyoungmi Twitter space.

The auction will be closed at midnight of November 3rd, so make your bid before it's too late!

UNDERCOVER : Menswear 2012 S/S Collection

I think Jun Takahashi of Undercover, is one of the most talented designer out there in the industry right now.  He refuses to fall into the mannerism caused by having few successful collections (there are some designers who create same stuff over and over... just by changing the colour & materials).  Every collection, for both menswear and womenswear, he presents something completely different, and they are always just spot on amazing.  I particularly like this collection due to the fact that most pieces look so, 'comfortable'.  I mean, there are really no looks that are pressuring you to do 'fashion'.  They just naturally look good, with right colours, right materials, right lengths and etc.

Unfortunately, the photos don't display the great details, which is what Undercover is all about...

H&M x VERSACE

A couple of months ago, I heard a rumour, that the Italian fashion house Versace has been chosen for the annual H&M collaboration partner.  I know the Versace has long time fans of its own (don't know any of them, but not because they all got shot and died), and some new fans brought by Christopher Kane.  However, I didn't think there would be enough fans of Versace to do a collaboration project with H&M, so I thought it was, well, just a rumour.  However, I heard the news that it was confirmed (for real) and I just thought it was an odd decision (for H&M that is).  Some photos of the collection.

Some description of the collection from H&M :

“Versace’s collection for H&M is full of the pieces that have made the house of Versace legendary. Dominated by colour, print and cut, the brand’s creative director Donatella Versace has gone back to the archives to bring some Versace classics to a whole new audience. Iconic dresses are the focus of the women’s collection, while menswear is centered on sharp tailoring. Also for the first time an H&M designer collaboration will include homeware pieces, reflecting Versace’s influential home designs. All collections will be available in around 300 stores worldwide, as well as on-line, from 17th November.
Versace’s men’s collection for H&M is a mix of slick tailoring and pieces of extravagant pattern. Suit jackets and trousers come in either black or pink, while a black tuxedo jacket has metallic tip trims on its pockets, and shirts have metallic wing-tips on the collars. Versace’s palm and optical prints are used on T-shirts, as well as on thin-knit cashmere sweaters, while print is also used on velvet bombers, jeans, and even underpants.
There’s leather in the men’s collection too, with a quilted leather jacket trimmed with gold studs in the Versace classical Greek pattern, which is repeated down the sides of black cotton shorts and a rolled-sleeve T-shirt. Accessories include embellished beanies and patterned caps, embellished or print scarfs, as well as hi-top sneakers and the perfect dress shoes.”

What do you guys think?

I think it is very unfortunate that this collaboration will be launched(17 November 2011) after the Halloween, as these would make great Miami Vice & Russian mobster costumes.

The Cambridge Satchel Company X Dr.Martens

Another collaboration between The Cambridge Satchel Company and Dr. Martens, two iconic British companies.  Not much to collaborate here other than the colours but..oh well.

The green one looks yummy.

Throwable 360º Panorama Sphere

I have been waiting for this to be mass-manufactured since I was 9 years old, but we don't still have it!  They don't still produce it!

Thanks to Jonas Pfeil, he created this sphere with 36, 2megapixel cameras for his graduation project.  When the sphere is thrown up in the air, it senses when the highest point has been reached (some sort of motion sensor is in it I guess).  I hope it will be soon available for me to play with.  Enjoy the video.

Hermès : Hearts and Crafts

In order to commemorate all the artisans and craftsmen, the French luxury fashion house, Hermès, introduces a documentary directed by Frederic Laffont and Isabelle Dupuy-Chavanat called "Hearts and Crafts".  It is also a dedicatory work of Hermès to thank all the artisans who supported and worked for Hermès since 1873.

It seems like the documentary will capture the series of stories and even the silence of working artisans at the atelier to create beautiful objects : leather goods, crystal, precious metals, silk and etc.

Can't wait to watch the full documentary.

UNDERCOVER : Official Website Launch

Nowadays, I can see Jun Takahashi's Undercover being very aggressive towards experiments and expansion.  Countless number of capsules, collaborations, campaigns and events.

Launching a website is one of them, and they even decided to stream and webcast their 2012 S/S collection on their website.  Many fashion brands nowadays, are doing it but I am excited to see Undercover's show because Jun Takahashi is good at doing things a bit differently than the others ;-)

In order to view the 2012 S/S show, you must register using your e-mail address to receive the access password.
